The steep nine-kilometre drive from Dharamsala town of Himachal Pradesh to McLeodganj - the abode of Tibetan spiritual head the Dalai Lama - may be a motorist's delight but that is no guarantee against a bumpy experience.11:33 AM on June 05
Tibetan food, artefacts, souvenirs, lengthy sessions for prayer and meditation at the main monastery, admiration for the Tibetan officers at the reception desks at the various buildings of the Tibetan Government in exile are some of my finest memories of McLeodganj. In the good old days, there used to be a neatly maintained Provision Shop opposite the Bus Stand. The shop owners were an elderly Parsi couple whom I found to be oral sources for rich historical information. In a few face to face encounters with the erudite couple, one could listen and learn a lot about Mcleodganj and the high points of its history of over half a century. The revered Parsi couple were eye witnesses to the beginnings and emergence of McLeodganj as a center for happenings. The HP State administration could find ways and means to widen or shift the Bus Stand to a new and more spacious location.
