The term of the commission probing the 1992 demolition of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya was Tuesday extended for the 47th time by six more months, a home minstry press statement said.

The term of the commission, inquiring into the destruction of the Ram Janma Bhoomi-Babri Masjid structure at Ayodhya Dec 6, 1992, would now expire in March 2009, the statement said.

The commission, headed by Justice Liberhan, was constituted Dec 16, 1992, ten days after a mob pulled down the disputed structure.

Mandated to inquire into the circumstances leading to the demolition of the mosque, it was originally scheduled to submit its report by March 16, 1993.

The last extension for two months ended Sep 30.
