Richa Mishra of Delhi stole the limelight by clinching double gold medals in swimming on the third day of the 33rd National Games here Sunday.
Mishra, who won two gold medals Saturday, maintained her domination in the swimming lanes by winning the 1,500 metres freestyle and 200 metres breaststroke events at the Dr. Zakir Hussain Acquatics Complex in the Sarusujai Sports Complex.
She clocked 18:14:97 in the 1,500m freestyle and was followed by Maharashtra's Surbhi Tirpe, who won the silver with a timing of 18:24:44. Karnataka's Pooja Alva clinched the bronze with 18:34:65.
In the breaststroke event, Mishra finished in 2:51:52 to clinch her second gold medal of the day. Maharashtra's Poorva Shetye bagged the silver with 2:55:30 while the bronze went to Andhra Pradesh's M.S. Divya, who finished in 2:55:66.
In the men's 1,500m freestyle event, Rohit Havaldar of Karnataka won the gold while the silver went to his state-mate Rehan Poncha.
Havaldar clocked 16:25:51 to finish first and set a new games record that was earlier held by Maharshtra's Mandar Divase (16:39:59) in the last edition in Andhra Pradesh. Poncha took 16:36:54 to finish second while Delhi's Merwyn Chen Chen bagged the bronze after he finished in 17:91:24.
Sandeep Sejwal of Delhi also set a new record in men's 200m breaststroke event en route to win the gold. He clocked 2:26:80 and erased the mark set by Andhra Pradesh's Deepak Kumar (2:29:85) in Hyderabad. Punjab's Puneet Rana (2:33:28) won the silver and the bronze went to Rohit Kumar (2:33:29) of Delhi.
