PGTI launches Players Championship golf

From correspondents in Delhi, India, 11:01 PM IST

The Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) Thursday announced the Players Championships, a series of four events, which will be held in the four zones of the country every season.

The first Players Championship, a Rs. 3 million event, will be played at the Chandigarh Golf Club May 28-31.

Speaking on the occasion, PGTI president Gautam Thapar said: "The introduction of the Players Championships is in line with our vision to take Indian professional golf to a global level. These tournaments will provide ample opportunities for young professionals to play their best and prepare themselves for international tournaments."

PGTI's latest initiative will provide the required momentum to the Indian professional golf circuit. These championships will not only provide PGTI members with more opportunities, but will also make the Indian tour more lucrative.

"With an attractive purse, these four events will surely attract more professionals and also encourage amateurs into the professional fold," said top Indian professional Jyoti Randhawa.
