From correspondents in West Bengal, India, 09:00 PM IST

A city court Thursday appointed retired justice Santosh Kumar Fouzdar as a neutral observer to oversee Tuesday's Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) elections.

Giving the order on a writ petition filed by a CAB affiliate unit, Anindita Roy Saraswati - judge of the sixth bench of the city civil court - said Fouzdar would oversee the entire process of election till the declaration of the results.

The CAB would have to pay Rs.60,000 as remuneration to Fouzdar for the job, the judge said.

The petition was filed by Bhupen Dey of the Central Calcutta Sporting Club, an affiliate unit of the CAB.

Incidentally, Dey's son Biswarup is one of the candidates backed by the dissidents led by Jagmohan Dalmiya for the post of joint secretary.
