The sports ministry has approved names of 40 tennis players for training for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

Six Indian coaches and a foreign coach, Dough MacCurdy of the US, have also been identified by the committee in consultation with the All India Tennis Association (AITA). The steering committee constituted by the government under the scheme has also directed the AITA to submit the names of support staff for approval.

As required under the scheme, the committee has also directed the AITA to prepare the annual calendar for training and competitions in consultation with Sports Authority of India (SAI) for imparting training for 305 days in a year for the period of August 2008 to March 2009.

R.K. Khanna Stadium in Delhi and the National Tennis Academy in Gurgaon have been identified as the training centres.

For providing infrastructural and equipment support, the committee has asked the SAI to examine the requirements of the AITA and submit a consolidated proposal to it for approval.
