Top seeds Mahesh Bhupathi (India) and Mark Knowles (Bahama) made their exit from the doubles competition in the $450,000 ATP Chennai Open tennis tournament here Friday, losing 6-3, 3-6, 8-10 to the Swiss combination of Jean-Claude Scherrer and Stanislas Wawrinka in the quarter-finals.

In another last-eight round match, the German pair of Bjorn Phau and Rainer Schuettler overcame Spanish duo of Marcel Granollers and Santiago Ventura 6-3, 6-7 (4), 10-7.
