Sri Lanka condemns hotel blast in Islamabad

From correspondents in Colombo, Sri Lanka, 02:30 PM IST

Sri Lanka Sunday 'unequivocally condemned' the devastating suicide bombing at the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad and offered support to Pakistan to combat terrorism.

Describing the Saturday attack as an 'abominable act of terrorism', the foreign ministry said the 'people and the government of Sri Lanka are extremely saddened' and 'share the grief of the Pakistan nation in this hour of acute pain'.

'Sri Lanka fully supports all comprehensive measures being taken by the government of Pakistan to combat the menace of terrorism,' the ministry said.

A ministry official told IANS that the Sri Lankan high commission and the residence of the high commissioner were damaged in the bomb attack and the window glasses of both the places were shattered.

'But no Sri Lankan was affected by the blast,' the official said.
