Sri Lanka's main Tamil political party Sunday congratulated Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi for the victory of the ruling coalition in Indian elections.

'The Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) rejoices with the people of India over the tremendous performance of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) in the (Lok Sabha) elections,' TULF president V. Anandasangaree said in a statement.

'May the world's largest and greatest democracy thrive under your guidance and leadership and march towards prosperity and total eradication of poverty,' he added.
