Canadian women tourists robbed in Lucknow

Two Canadian women tourists were robbed in the Uttar Pradesh capital late Sunday night, police said.

The incident took place in the central Hazratganj locality of the capital at around 11:30 p.m. when the tourists from Ottawa, Canada, were returning to their hotel in a cycle rickshaw.

'According to the complainants, Gillian and Catherine, two motorcycle borne men intercepted them and snatched their purses,' additional superintendent of police Paresh Pandey told IANS.

The bags contained their passports, foreign and Indian currencies and other belongings, he added.

'The women informed that they are on an educational tour of India and are staying in a hotel in the Qaiserbagh locality. The incident took place when they were returning to the hotel from a coffee shop in Hazratganj,' Pandey said.
